For Beautiful, Lasting Flowers
Cut
one inch off the bottom of soft stemmed flowers with a sharp
knife, slantwise. Hard and woody stemmed flowers should be sliced
slantwise and one inch to three inches of the bark at the end
of the stem scraped away with a sharp knife. The flowers should
then be placed deep in the water for at least an hour before
arranging. Always arrange in a clean container with as deep
a depth of water as possible, topping up daily. Remove all leaves
which, on arranging, will be below water level. As far as possible
avoid putting the flowers in draughty or hot locations and keep
out of direct sunshine.
Should any flower
flag, again treat as above. If Roses should flop at their heads
re-cut and plunge the stems only into boiling water for a short
time.
